**Answer:** B. The claim’s scope is **every year**, so the evidence must show each consecutive drop, which B does (1,200 → 1,050 → 860 → 700). A is the subtle trap: true, but endpoints can’t rule out a rise-and-fall in the middle, so it proves only "declined overall." C has the wrong subject; D proves nothing about decline.

1. **Restate the claim.** Say exactly what must be true, every part of it ("saved water AND raised yield").
2. **Predict the proof.** Decide what evidence *would* prove it before reading the options.
3. **Test each option against the claim.** Does this directly prove the WHOLE claim? Eliminate anything proving a different one.
4. **Match the scope.** The winner’s strength and topic line up exactly with the claim’s.

- ✗ **The trap:** Picking the most interesting or strongest-sounding fact, even if it proves a claim that wasn’t made.
- ✓ **The move:** Pick the fact that maps one-to-one onto the claim as stated, no more, no less.
